影片根据“二七”革命斗争故事来改编，主要讲述林祥谦烈士在党的培养下，从一个普通工人成长为优秀的共产党员，京汉工人运动领袖的事迹。林祥谦在生死存亡的关头，发出了“我分工会非得总工会命令不能开工；我头可断，血可流，工不可复！”影片讴歌林祥谦不畏强暴、不怕牺牲、勇敢坚定、宁死不屈的大无畏精神和全心全意为劳苦大众求解放的崇高品质；还充分展现出林祥谦坚定的政治信仰和浓烈的阶级感情以及助人为乐、舍生取义的牺牲精神，是2021年中央开展的“中共党史教育”的鲜活教材。
